This set of resin replacement track from WWII Productions is for the Tamiya 1:48 Panther Ausf.G (kit #32520) and Jagdpanther Late Version (kit #32522).
The set has 210 track links (81 per side) in light grey resin with excellent detail but there is quite a bit of excess resin film to be removed from inside the link recesses, drive sprocket holes and the open guide teeth, yes open guide teeth on 1:48 track.
The cleanup is easy with the resin film being very thin and a quick pass with a sharp X-Acto #11 blade is all that is needed but it does take a little time although no more than with the corresponding 1:35 Panther tracks from WWII Prod.
The track face and end bolt details are very well defined with the different bolt heads on either end and as mentioned the open guide teeth with the links being packed in two bags marked “left” and “right” so you know which go where and you should take care not to mix these up during cleanup and assembly.
Assembly is very straightforward as with other WWII Prod track sets with each link having one pin slightly larger than the other and you simply slip one link over the larger locating pin and using a pair of fine tweezers gently “clip” the opposite end of the link over the samller pin. Resting the pin over the link and gently squeezing with the tweezers will give the best results but take care as the resin is quite thin around the locating hole on these smaller tracks but I didn’t have any problems when fitting the links together.
The assembled track runs fit perfectly around the Tamiya kit sprockets as you would expect and articulate freely for very natural sag over the top of the road wheels.
Conclusion:
Another excellent set of resin tracks from WWII Productions that are virtually
shrunken versions of the excellent 1:35 Panther tracks sets. They display
an equal degree of detail that certainly looks good in 1:48 and will add considerably
to the final appearance of the models.
