The Photo Journal of the Second World War
Issue 3
Ampersand Publishing.
96 pages soft cover.
The Book:
This is
the third in the series and continues the same formula of good close-up photos
plus wartime photos. Many of the photos are one to a page which allows the
details
to be clearly seen with the large photos. Each page has brief descriptions
at the bottom of each picture.
Contents of issue 3:
Sd.Kfz.9 FAMO with Sd.Ah116 trailer: (pages 2 to 26)
This is superb sequence of photos with many close-ups of the rear bogie being disconnected from the trailer, the Panzer III being loaded and the bogie reattached and then driven to a repair depot. Finally there are a few photos of a Bussing-NAG Type 4500A heavy truck with 3-ton crane removing the engine pack form the Panzer III with some superb shots of the power pack. M26 Dragon Wagon: (pages 27 to 83)
There is a superb mix of WWII in action
photos with great close-ups of museum M26 mixed in with segments from the workshop
manual. The M26A1 is also covered although all the close-ups are of the armoured
M26. There are some good photo sequences including the much covered M26 towing
a disabled Panther through a German town in 1944. Another has DWs transporting
LVT-2 in preparation a river crossing in Germany with some great shots of a
LVT-2 being unloaded. There are also a number of post war photos of the M26A1 and M15A1 trailer.
M3A1 White Scout Car: (pages 84 to 96)
Finally there
is small section with some excellent close-up detail shots of an
M3A1 White Scout Car with both interior and exterior shots as well as of the
engine in and out of the vehicle.
Do yourselves a favour and get hold of these Allied-Axis books, I suspect they won't be around forever and will be sought after high and low.
