book Schwerer Zugkraftwagen 18 ton and Variants FAMO "Bulle" (Sd.Kfz.9)
Nuts & Bolts Vol.12

When Tamiya released their FAMO kit, most modellers looked with despair at the lack of reference books on the beast. A few tantalising glimpses were in the Spielberger book, but apart from that the cupboard was bare in the regular modelling press.

This book goes a long way to filling the void, hopefully more will follow?

96 pages in soft cover A4 format, the book has text in both English and German.
The first 27 pages has a brief history and description of the various versions produced and about 50 wartime photographs of different FAMOs, including the Sd.Kfz.9/1 crane.

Following this is 1/35th plans for the Artillery Version, the Early and Late Towing Version, the towing version with rear spade, the Sd.Kfz.9/1 Crane, the Sd.Kfz.9/2 Crane and the 8.8cm flak vehicle with armoured cab. A nicer selection of plan drawings would be hard to find.

The major part of the book is taken up with excellent close-up photographs of the Wheatcroft Collection FAMO. This is a late model FAMO and care should be taken when adding details to the Tamiya kit. The Tamiya Kit seems to represent a late early F3 version (if that makes sense?). Every part of the vehicle is covered and will provide a wealth of detail information. This one paragraph can't begin to describe the number and quality of photographs included.

The final 10 pages have photos of other museum and surviving vehicles, including a few put to work after the war.

In all a brilliant reference book. Highly recommended for those wishing to add a bit more to their kit.

I received my book in the usual short turnaround time from Historex Agents.

Also see the superb 'Military Machine' FAMO 18t book, with these two there isn't much more you'd want to know about the FAMO
