Review by Terry Ashley
Text is in Polish and English with a brief historical introduction and technical description followed by 16 pages of action photos mostly of training with the Polish army during the 1920s as well as line drawings from the field manual of the gun, ammo supply limber and transport wagons which gives a good overall impression of the gun as well as the uniforms of the time.
The remainder of the book has detailed close-up images of a preserved gun from the Polish Army Museum with 15 pages of colour photos and a further 19 pages in black and white as well as more illustrations from the field manual to add clarity to the walk around photos.
The initial overall walk around of the whole gun is followed by the extreme close-up images covering every aspect of the gun from breech to muzzle with shots of the breech block separate from the gun as well as the gun laying hand wheels, crew seats, lower cradle and mountings and the rear trail with tow hitch.
The shield is shown in a series of close-ups front and back as well as the minute details and lower attachment bar which doubles as the axles for the wood spoked wheels.
These are again shown in great detail with excellent shots of the central hub, wood spokes and attachments to the outer wheel rim and the wheel brake rods.
As mentioned there are numerous illustrations from the field manual detailing sections such as the gun sight, hand wheels and wheels mountings and help to give good perspective to the close-up images.
As a bonus is a CD included with the field maintenance manual in .pdf format and all you need to view this is to have Adobe Acrobat installed on the computer, either PC or MAC.
The manual is from the Polish Army and therefore has only Polish text but the many illustrations of the working parts of the gun with numerous cut away cross section drawings will appeal to the more technically minded as well as the modeller.
Conclusion:
Again the book may be small in size but is packed with excellent close-up
detail shots of the 75mm M1897 gun and the enclosed CD is a real bonus with
the overall coverage of the gun providing just about every detail you would
ever want.
Highly recommended.
