Review by Peter Brown
The account begins with the background to the exercise from a fictionalised Balkan-style conflict, a breakdown of the Norwegian, German, American, Dutch, Finnish, Swedish, Italian, Belgian, Danish, French, Polish and Spanish contingents taking part. Most of the book is a photographic record of the exercise day-by-day, and shows the troops in the field which at the time was snow-covered.
With such a diverse makeup to the MNTF the equipment shown is very varied. Some countries use similar vehicles, such as CV90 series infantry fighting vehicles in Norwegian and Swedish hands, Daimler-Benz and Mercedes-Benz along with Land-Rover and HMMWV 4x4s with several forces, Leopard 1A5NO2 with associated ARVs and bridgelayers, Bv206 and SISU over-snow vehicles very much in their element. XA-185 and LAV wheeled APCs including some in very inappropriate colours, M113 in various forms, Swedish-owned Pbv402 MT-LB along with trucks, troops and helicopters.
These make for good model subjects, with difference colour schemes and markings though some subjects are not available in kit form.
