Humber Wheels
1:35 Hussar Set #35057, 35058, 35059
Review by Terry Ashley

The set:
BroncoHussar Productions continue to release excellent resin wheel sets with these three sets designed for the Bronco Models Humber Scout Car Mk.I (kit# CB35009).

The sets provide two of the most common wheel types seen in photos and one less common type allowing you to give the kit a new look.

The sets are;
#35057 'Humber wheels Directional Type' produced by the 'India' Company and named "Super Traction".
#35058 'Humber wheels Cross Country Type' produced by 'Firestone' and named "Ground Grip"
#35059 'Humber wheels Non-Directional Type' produced by 'Dunlop' and named "Trak Grip"

Each set gives you the four main vehicle wheels and a fifth spare allowing you replace all the wheels in the Humber kit utilizing the kit hubs and simply replacing the Bronco kit wheels. The wheels are not designed for the SKP Humber kit (kit #SKP011) as the wheels in that kit have the hubs included with the wheel rim requiring a fair bit of work to fit the resin wheels.

The casting quality is extremely good with very well defined rim details with the correct contours and bolt head details as well as the brake adjuster hole with the only cleanup being a small casting stub about 3mm in diameter which leaves just a very small scar after removal which can be hidden at the ground contact. The casting stub on the spare wheel is even smaller (about 1mm) and the scar is virtually invisible after removal.

There is no other cleanup needed as the castings are extremely clean as mentioned and the only blemish was a single small air hole on the rim of one wheel out of the 15 in the three sets.

The tread patterns on the three types are also very cleanly cast and there is embossing on the sidewalls with the Firestone wheel having the name "Ground Grip" included and the Dunlop type the name "Trak Grip" as well as the tyre size embossing.

Fitting the wheels to the Bronco kit is a simple as it gets with no alterations required, you simply assemble the kit suspension as per instructions and fit the resin wheels in place of the kit wheels using the kit hubs the same as with the kit wheels, that's it.

Fitting the spare is just as easy by fitting the wheel to the hull side in place of the kit spare with the rim mounting hole blanked off.

As mentioned the wheels are not designed for the SKP Humber kit and a fair bit of work is required if you want to use these on that kit. This would entail cutting the wheel hubs from the kit wheels but not flush with the rims as the hubs are too shallow. You should cut away the rims leaving taller hubs that can be added to the resin wheels.

You will also have to shorten the axles on the SKP suspension to fit the wheels and that is a lot easier than cutting the hubs from the wheel rims. So it is possible to use these wheels on the SKP kit if you are prepared for some work but they will improve the look of the kit at the end.

Conclusion:

The casting quality of these wheels is close to the best you will find with very little cleanup and no blemishes with the wheel rim and tread pattern details being extremely well defined.

Added to the excellent quality of the resin in the easy fitting and the sets give you the two most common wheels types seen on Humber SCs as well as a lesser know type to allow you to add variety to your Humber and could even be an excuse to build more that one to utilize the other sets.

It should be noted that there were up to 15 different wheel types used on Humbers an other British wheeled vehicles and there were also some slight variations in tread patters but this set is as correct as you could possibly get for the types provided.

Highly recommended 9/10
