Verlinden

When I first checked out my Skybow kit of the M38 with it's lovely fine detail parts my thoughts went to just what could aftermarket resin companies do to improve this?

On seeing the Verlinden "detail" set for the M38, the answer is "not much"!.
The first thing that strikes you about this "detail" set is that the box is about three times bigger than it needs to be to hold the few parts inside. This couldn't be a slick illusion by Verlinden to fool people to thinking there is more in the box than there actually is, surely not?

There are 42 resin pieces (all small, the radio being the largest piece), but only 13 of these are for the M38 itself. The rest are things like, personal gear, ammo boxes, tools and the now standard .50cal machine gun with every allied detail set (this is still an excellent piece of resin casting).

Most of the 24 etched metal parts on the small fret are for the M38 directly, which is better going.

The parts themselves are up the usual casting standard from Verlinden, i.e. no blemishes or air bubbles and with the standard casting blocks to be remove. As all the parts are small, this is no problem.

The inside of the open hood gets good detail treatment and you can add an open battery compartment if you wish. This requires a bit of surgery to the kit part, but nothing that is out of reach of the average modeller.

The instruction sheet is large (A5) with good construction drawings and text to explain where the few things go.

Overall a simple detail set which can add fine details to what is an already impressive kit of the M38 from Skybow.
