Voyager Models Set#VPE 48005
1:48 Scale
Review by Terry Ashley

TamiyaVoyager Models have released this comprehensive etched set for the recently released Tamiya 1:48 Tiger I Early Production kit #32504 which consists of four frets of etched metal parts in different gauges plus two short lengths of thin plastic rod.

The etched parts have very good quality etching with well defined details and relief on the parts with the usual engraved lines to help with bending as we have come to expect from Voyager in their 1:35 etched sets with the parts well protected in a sturdy card box.

The main parts are the fine screens for the engine deck grills and while the parts are flat in profile the etching gives the impression of the weave effect which looks okay in this scale. Other larger parts include the full side fenders in segments so it would be easy to leave a segment off or add realistic damage and the rear hull fenders/mud flaps made up of five parts each are also included which gives a far better scale appearance than the kit parts.

The rear exhaust covers are also provided and again this gives good scale appearance and makes adding damage very easy and additional tool clips are included for the hull top tow ropes, rear jack and Feifel air cleaner piping which will require you to remove the moulded on clips from some of the parts but this should be easy enough.

Small latches for the rear turret storage box and additional parts for the hatch levers but these suffer from the 'flat' profile of etched parts and there are new smoke grenade and track link mountings for the turret sides.

Overall this is quite a comprehensive set for this smaller scale and addresses a number of scale issues with the kit as well as adding additional details that will help with the final kit but as you can image some parts are quite small and will need care when handling.

Highly recommended.
