Review by Terry Ashley

ROSSAgraph continue their excellent Monograph series with this reference on the big 21cm Mörser 18 which was designed in 1920 as an improvement on the similar weapon used during WWI and went into production during 1939.

The book has 40 pages with the text and photo captions in both Polish and English and starts with an introduction with the development history, technical data and a brief service history which is supplemented with 4 pages of wartime photos, some in colour as well as four view plans showing the layout of the Mörser.

The remainder of the book is taken up with close-up walk around type photos of the preserved 21cm Mörser 18 at the Polish Military Museum in Warsaw with all but four pages being in black and white.

The detailed photos as with previous volumes are extreme close-up shots of virtually every part of the Mörser from the breech and gun mount to the lower carriage and rear trail. There are numerous shots of the complicated suspension on the front of the carriage and rear limber but the rubber sections of the wheels have degraded badly over the years and are virtually non existent in the photos. The fenders are missing as are the two large recuperator cylinders either side of the gun as well as some other smaller fittings and the inclusion of the wartime photos and plans will help identify the missing details.

Despite the less than complete gun the details included in the photos will be very useful determining the main features of the gun.

Conclusion:
Although small in size the book is packed with close-up photos and while the gun is not complete the details provided will be more than useful.

Recommended.
