Kübelwagon with
Infra Red device

1/35 #BL35041K

Review by Terry Ashley

Tamiya Towards the end of WWII Germany was experimenting with IR devices for vehicles with probably the most well known being the Sd.Kfz.251 ‘UHU’. There were also devices mounted of the Kübelwagen as captured at the end of the war and this is the subject of this conversion set from Blast Models.

Designed for the Tamiya Kübelwagen (kit No.35213) the set consists of 19 pieces cast in the usual light cream resin from Blast Models and a sheet of clear acetate, the resin parts are cleanly cast with only very small casting points to be cleaned up along with some thin resin film on some parts, nothing too difficult.

Included in the set is a new folded canvas roof and frame with exceptionally good details and canvas folds to replace the kit items, a new dash board with additional instruments for the IR devices, a new windscreen frame with the clear acetate provided for the windscreen, a number of IR electronic boxes (cast in one piece) which fits into the luggage compartment behind the back seat plus the two large IR devices mounted just in front of the windscreen and another light mounted on a bracket mounted at the front of the vehicle.
Smaller detail parts are also included and the instructions show the placement of some additional wiring for the IR devices.

The Instructions:
The instructions consist of a small double sided sheet with the numbered parts paid out plus photos of the parts fitted to the Tamiya kit called out by number to clearly show where they all go and I find these easy to follow.

Conclusion:
This is an interesting conversion set that doesn’t require any work on the target kit other than replacing the kit parts with the new resin parts for those who like that something different and is bound to attract attention at any model show.

Highly Recommended.
