This set has 124 crisply cast
resin pieces, the casting quality is excellent with no warping or air holes present.
There is the usual excess resin to be removed from the bits before use. There
is also a large etched copper sheet with a host of detail bits, mostly for the
interior.
The exterior parts are the headlight guards, tool attachments, mine racks and
detailed .50cal MG. The interior parts have a complete front bulkhead with driver's
controls moulded on, this just fits inside the kit part. A new radio is included
along with side ammo compartments, which can be shown open or closed. Numerous
small detail bits are included for the interior, like torches with etched clips,
jerry can racks and other small bits.
The turret interior has new 37mm ammo racks with some nice resin rounds. Spent
shell bags are supplied for the main gun and co-ax .30cal as well as a new sight
and other small detail.
Of special note is the M2 .50cal
Machine Gun. This is not the usual Verlinden .50cal which has been around as
long as Verlinden update sets. It is an entirely new casting and is simply superb.
The main body of the gun has the mount cast on as one piece, with the top breech
cover separate so you can show the gun open being reloaded or serviced. The crispness
of this casting is excellent and looses nothing being moulded together. The barrel
with cooling jacket is a separate piece.
Attached to this is another new ammo box and mount casting with again excellent
detail. This assembly is a vast improvement on the old gun.
As well as the vehicle bits there is also a large assortment of .50cal and .30cal
ammo boxes and personal gear to compliment and fill out the vehicle.
The quality of the etched metal is also a vast improvement on some recent sets,
with all the pieces cleanly etched.
Another excellent set, highly recommended. This combined with set 1442 will really "fill" your
M8. I wouldn't be surprised to see an interior set released for the
M20 as well.
