Voyager Model 1:35 Set #PEA135 for Dragon kit #6460
Review by Jenny Croft

Dragon
Introduction:

The Voyager Brummbar Mid Version Side Skirts are designed for Dragons recent Brummbar Mid production kit 6460; they are released in conjunction with PE 35297 Brummbar Mid Version basic set and PE 35298 Brummbar Early/ Mid Version Fenders.

The Update Set:

The update set consists of Photo Etched Side Skirts and the mounting brackets for the Dragon Mid Production Brummbar. The set consists of four etch frets containing the side skirts and a fret which contains the mounting brackets for the skirts to sit out from the hull totally replacing the Dragon parts.

The first stages on the assembly involve the fender brackets for the lower attachment of the side skirts. On the review fret there was an anomaly that meant that the fret was not etched all the way through, I mentioned this to Terry and we both concurred we have never seen similar before on Voyager etch sets, a set of Xuron PE scissors or alternately a sharp scalpel will cut through the excess brass with no problems anyway.

Next are the spacing brackets for the hanger for the top of the side skirts, these take some patience to assemble and soldering will make a lot sturdier sub assemblies, the long hangers which the skirts attach to are best bent with the use of a good etched bending tool as they require precise bending over a lengthy area.

The molded on mounts for the brackets are best removed from the Dragon kit just prior to installing the Voyager framework.

The last stage is to add the brackets to the side armor plates and to install them on the hangers.

Conclusion:

The Voyager set offers scale thickness for the side skirts and their brackets; they both will accept battle damage in a realistic way, just like the real thing. Having said this, side skirt sets are not for the fainthearted, requiring some skills and patience with photo etched brass.

Highly recommended.
